It's called Canon EOS-1D and C is a new digital SLR dedicated to cinema, television and production companies that need high resolution images. The new machine, in fact, allows video shooting 4K (4,096 x 2,160) 'in-camera' with 4:2:2 color sampling.
Canon speaks of "exceptional video quality, advanced performance in low light and dynamic range of film types."
First of its kind SLR camera, the EOS-1D C is a light car, laptop, offering support to a wide range of resolutions and frame rates. The 4K video capture is recorded with Motion JPEG 8-bit to 24p, and video capture Full HD (1920 x 1080) is available with frame rates up to 1080/60p.
The camera supports recording on internal CF card at all resolutions, including 4K. The video can also be transferred to external recorders (except for 4K video) via an HDMI integrated using a YCbCr 4:2:2 uncompressed signal.
Canon Log Gamma
EOS-1D is equipped with Canon Log C range (12 stops of dynamic range, even in dim light), which facilitates the capture of high-quality video with exposure latitude and extended dynamic range. Log Canon range offers a dynamic range comparable to the film, with minimal loss of detail in the shadows and lights, and giving greater freedom to work in post-production.
The performance of the EOS-1D Advanced X
The main technical characteristics are those of the Canon EOS-1D X (read our annual report):

When shooting 4K film, uses the sensor surface equivalent to an APS-H. The crop in the Super 35mm format recording in Full HD, it is convenient for filmmakers who usually work in the field of view of the Super 35.
Timecode and Codec
The frame rate at 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60p in Full HD offers more flexibility. The presence of timecode, the choice of codec and the various methods of compression ensure compatibility with the processes of professional workflows, facilitating the editing and cataloging immediately after shooting.
EOS-1D C is accompanied by a unique software package, including a suite that allows video and JPEG 4K/Motion Full HD/60p on the camera to be viewed on an external monitor (requires a PC with SDI) without loss of image quality. Even videos shot with Canon Log Gamma can be sent to a standard video monitor with range.
More advanced applications, including EOS Utility and Picture Style Editor allows to adjust various camera settings directly from a PC. Procedures in real time, such as editing and recording of Picture Style or checking the results on a monitor, can be conveniently carried out on the set using a PC or a Mac
Compatible EF lenses and EF Cinema - Canon EOS-1D C is compatible with over 60 EF lenses - offering high resolutions to support the acquisition of 4K film - with focal lengths from 8 to 800 mm. The machine is compatible, of course, even with the new objectives of the specialized EF Cinema system.
The price of the Canon EOS-1D C, which goes on sale from October 2012, is indicated (there is still no official confirmation) to around 10,000 euros
